H’AND HERB Life

H’AND HERB Life

H’AND HERB Life started in July 2015, mainly selling Chinese herbal tea and hand-made bread. They want to introduce the concept of eating according to the season and strengthen the weak part by Chinese medical wisdom by selling the tea. The name of H’AND HERB Life represents the image of hand picking, selecting herbals and also making tea. Herb then not only represents the ingredients but also the spirit they want to share that even tiny living can have strong power like grass. They are planning to make the second floor space into an art studio and will have plenty artistic classes to both children and adults. For them, the balance of both body and mental are important, so visiting H’AND HERB Life you can not only taste nice and healthy tea but also have a peaceful journey discovering in your mind.

Hugo has been familiar with Chinese herbals since he was a kid as his grandfather opened Chinese medicine store and his father ran the business selling both Chinese and Western medicine. It has been a habit for him to cook with Chinese herbals and eat different ingredients according to the season. When Hugo’s friends visit his home, they always become very jealous how lucky he is to have such yummy spicy hot pot or beef soup with Chinese herbals at home. The menu and kitchen design of H’AND HERB Life didn’t meant to provide meals, but with the faith that they are promoting the idea that medicine and food shall have the same source. From this February, they hold exhibition cooking with the suitable herbals and ingredients, and the cuisine is not for sale but only through barter economy. Through this events which according to the 24 solar terms, Hugo wants to make the events back to old times when people care quality and simplicity much more than convenience or price . So if you want to attend the dinner, you have to bring things useful just you don’t need anymore, make the resource continue and make the night warmer.

The concept they want to promote is in each season people should all eat proper according to the weather to make body smoother. In spring when everything grows, people should take much care about liver. In summer when it is always hot, chrysanthemum tea may be suitable for preventing heat stroke. When in autumn, moisturizing lung and avoiding spicy flavor is a must. Winter is like for most people knowing should have hot food and keep warm as always.

When it comes to how he feels about the tourism development in Tainan, Hugo thinks it is important for people learn and understand the history and to really have the idea how a city being develop. Therefore, it wouldn’t be a memory with plenty food but empty feelings after a journey. Especially, Tainan is like a city being connected by one and the other temples. When you come to H’AND HERB Life, don’t miss the temples around, Chikan Tower and Xinmei Street (where old times selling rice). It would be more meaningful if you get to know the story before visiting Tainan next time!
